Health Symptoms

Health symptoms being reported by individuals exposed to traces of oil in the air include:
  • Burning sensation in nose/lungs
  • Allergy-like reactions
  • Nausea
  • Headaches or Migraines
  • Dizziness
  • Eye Irritation
As of mid-May the EPA has stated that the air quality in and around Southeast Louisiana is safe. However, it is recommended that if you begin to suffer  any of these symptoms, especially long-term, and they are irregular or not common in your everyday life, to contact a medical expert immediately. For now, it is recommended that individuals living in areas where oil can be smelled avoid long-term activities outdoors, use air conditioning wherever possible and remain indoors whenever possible. For those who are facing health problems and have had direct, physical contact with the oil as part of a clean-up process, contact a physician immediately as prolonged exposure to crude oil can be dangerous and may require signficant medical attention.
